The President of the Republic of Slovenia: "The triumphs of athletes are an inspiration to us all"

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today held a reception for the best Slovenian athletes of 2013 in the Presidential Palace. This year's reception was the first to be organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport and the first to include athletes with disabilities and world champions in disciplines that are not among the most widely practised, popular or Olympic sports.
In his opening address, President Pahor congratulated the athletes on their triumphs and stressed the characteristics needed to win, such as talent, discipline, self-denial and vision, which are needed to achieve any success, in sports or in general. He added that athletes are an inspiration to us all and wished all the participants at the reception a merry Christmas, a happy new year and lots of success in the coming year.

At 8.00 p.m., President Pahor attended the Slovenian Sportsman of the Year 20 ceremony, where the best athletes as selected by the Association of Sports Journalists of Slovenia were announced.
