President Pahor started the second day of his official visit to the UK by laying a wreath at the memorial to innocent victims of war and oppression in front of Westminster Abbey.
The ceremony was followed by a tour of the Abbey – originally the abbey church of a Benedictine monastery – that was built in the 11th century and is one of the most famous sacral buildings in Europe, where all the royal rituals (crowning, weddings, funerals, baptisms, etc.) are traditionally held and is also the last resting place of the British monarchs.
As part of the official programme of the visit, President Pahor today met with the Lord Speaker, Lord Norman Fowler and some Members of the Chamber of Deputies and of the House of Lords. Tomorrow, he will also meet with Lord Mayor of the City of London Peter Estlin and expectedly also British Prime Minister Theresa May. He will also pay a visit to the London Stock Exchange and some leading financial institutions. On the occasion of President Pahor's visit to the UK, Slovenian Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Tadej Rupel will this evening host a reception for Slovenians living in the United Kingdom.
