Slovenian President Borut Pahor ends his official visit to the Hellenic Republic in Nafplion in the Peloponnese

Slovenian President Borut Pahor is visiting the town of Nafplion, where a special ceremony was held and the President unveiled a plaque commemorating Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first Governor of modern Greece. Kapodistrias is one of the pioneers of the idea of European integration, the symbol of Greece’s fight for independence, and the father of modern Greece. His ancestors come from the city of Koper and Ioannis Kapodistrias also embodies a symbol of the relationship between Slovenia and Greece. The unveiling of the plaque confirms the friendship between the two countries and support for European integration; Greece presented Slovenia with a bronze statue of Ioannis Kapodistrias in 2001. The statue stands in Koper, where a street and square are named after him.

President Pahor visited the seat of the first parliament of modern Greece and signed the city's guests of honour book.

In Nafplion, Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament Nikos Voutsis presented President Pahor with a digital copy of the well-received exhibition on Kapodistrias, curated by the Library of the Hellenic Parliament in 2016. At the initiative of the Slovenian Embassy in Greece, the exhibition will travel to the Koper Regional Museum in May 2019. This represents a special expression of support for the project by the Greek Parliament.
