 | The President of the Republic of Slovenia Dr Danilo Türk today received Cardinal Tarcision Bertone, Secretary of State of the Holy See. On this occasion, President Türk expressed his thanks for the clear message communicated by Pope Benedict XVI in support of the arbitration agreement between Slovenia and Croatia, which helped in public discussions prior to the referendum.
The Slovenian President and Cardinal Bertone touched on several international topical issues, in particular the situation in Gaza. Dr Türk presented to the Secretary of State of the Holy See his humanitarian initiative for aid to disabled Palestinian children coming to Slovenia for medical treatment.
The two dignitaries also discussed the significance of efforts to maintain tolerance in social dialogue, which is the only guarantee for resolving problems caused by the economic crisis. At the close of the reception, Dr Türk reiterated his invitation to Pope Benedict XVI to visit Slovenia. |
