| The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Szeged, which he visited on the second day of his official visit to the Republic of Hungary. In his acceptance speech, Dr Türk stressed the importance of human rights, which he had chosen as the basis of his professional and research engagement. As he said, human rights must be at the forefront of political activities and decision-making.
Dr Türk also attended the signing of the Agreement on Co-operation between the University of Ljubljana and the University of Szeged, signed on behalf of the Republic of Slovenia by the Rector of the University of Ljubljana, Dr Stanislav Pejovnik.
Dr Türk concluded his official visit by delivering a lecture at the Faculty of Law of the University of Szeged entitled Responsibility to Protect: Old Ideas and New Beginnings. In his lecture, Dr Türk analysed the development of the notion of sovereignty and the issue of international reactions to humanitarian crises resulting from mass violations of human rights. |
