Slovenian president receives newly appointed European Council president

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, today received the newly appointed permanent President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, and congratulated him on his appointment to office.
The two dignitaries exchanged views on certain fundamental issues regarding the future of the European Union that will require well coordinated functioning of all EU institutions and the provision of a progressively inclusive political process, while considering the needs of all Member States.
The two presidents also discussed the methods of consultations on political issues, including those which relate to future European security architecture and the situation in the Western Balkans.
