Ljubljana, 30.6.2009  |  press release

President Dr Danilo Türk receives OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría (FA BOBO)The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, today received the Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Angel Gurría. The OECD Secretary-General took the opportunity to present a copy of the OECD’s economic review of Slovenia for 2009 and to briefly outline its content. Dr Türk and Mr Gurría also touched on the global financial and economic crisis, and on the OECD finding signs of revitalisation of the world economy.

They also discussed Slovenia’s OECD accession process, which is advancing without major setbacks, and therefore the OECD Council is expected to issue an invitation to Slovenia to join the OECD at the beginning of next year. In this regard, the OECD has called upon Slovenia to devote special attention to measures linked to improving corporate governance and preventing corruption in the economy.

In view of Dr Türk’s past experience as UN Special Rapporteur on the Realization of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, Secretary-General Gurría invited him to deliver an address at the opening of the third OECD World Forum "Charting Progress, Building Visions, Improving Life" to be held in Busan, Korea, in October 2009.
