On behalf of all Slovenians, he thanked our superb athletes who had represented our country excellently at this grand global event.

The president told the athletes that the Slovenian people had supported them during their appearances and sincerely cheered their results. They understood how immensely important their Olympic appearance was for Slovenia and Slovenian sport. According to President Türk, Slovenian physical culture and sport are the essential part of our general culture and cultural identity.

Slovenia once again ranked among the group of countries which, considering the size of their population, achieved the best Olympic results. The president therefore emphasised that these achievements represent a highly important factor of our self-confidence. This year's Olympics saw the appearance of Slovenian athletes of all generations. A good number of medals and other excellent results show that we have both experienced athletes with the best results, and a number of young ones whose time is yet to come. President Türk expressed his belief that further efforts will bring new great results, which will promote Slovenia's reputation in the world.
