They discussed the preparations for the visit of the Dean of the College of Cardinals at the Holy Seat, Cardinal Dr Angelo Sodano, who will be visiting the Republic of Slovenia between 15 and 18 June.

The idea for the visit of Cardinal Sodano to the Posoèje Region resulted from a conversation between the Cardinal and President Türk on the occasion of the main celebration of Slovenian Statehood Day and the 20th anniversary of Slovenian independence in June 2011. In their conversation, the President mentioned the project ‘the Walk of Peace from the Alps to the Adriatic Sea’, and Cardinal Sodano expressed his interest in visiting some of the First World War monuments on this commemorative path.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is preparing the programme for the visit, and the President of the Republic will host a lunch for Cardinal Sodano on 18 June 2012. President Türk and Cardinal Sodano will discuss the project ‘the Walk of Peace from the Alps to the Adriatic Sea’, the marking of the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War and the historic effects of this war on the history of the 20th century.
