Slovenian President receives Libyan Prime Minister

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, receives the Prime Minister of the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Dr al Baghdadi Ali al-Mahmoudi  (photo: Stanko Gruden/STA)The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, received the Prime Minister of the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Dr al Baghdadi Ali al-Mahmoudi, with whom he discussed, among other topics, bilateral relations. Dr Türk and Dr Mahmoudi agreed that Slovenia and Libya are friendly countries and that cooperation, particularly in the economic area, is developing well. Dr Türk and his Libyan guest also called for the enhancement of diplomatic cooperation and a review of the possibility of opening respective embassies in Ljubljana and Tripoli.

Moreover, the two dignitaries discussed Libya's role in Africa, the position of Slovenia within the European Union and the Mediterranean identity of both countries. President Türk outlined the operation of the Portoro¾-based Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI). The two also touched on topical international issues and briefly exchanged views on reform of the UN Security Council. The Libyan Prime Minister welcomed the humanitarian rehabilitation project for Palestinian children launched on the initiative of the Slovenian President and expressed Libya's willingness to cooperate and support this project.
