Slovenian President receives Enlargement Commissioner

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, today received the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Mr Olli Rehn. They exchanged views on the further process of enlargement of the European Union; in this regard, Commissioner Rehn presented in detail the European Commission’s deliberations on this issue. Their talks focused mainly on the European perspective for the Western Balkan countries and on the individual consideration of candidate countries for EU membership.

They further discussed the state of accession negotiations with the Republic of Croatia for EU membership. In this regard, President Türk particularly highlighted the importance of in-depth consideration and efforts to restore confidence, which, he believes, is necessary in order to resolve problems with Croatia successfully and contribute to the country’s progress in its endeavours to join the European Union.
