President Türk: Slovenia is interested in stability and success of Croatia

President of the Republic of Slovenia Dr. Danilo Türk expressed surprise at the resignation of Mr. Ivo Sanader, Prime Minister of Croatia. President Türk emphasised that the resignation is an internal matter of the Republic of Croatia and added that Slovenia is interested in stability and success of the Republic of Croatia in the efforts to overcome the current economic crisis which is global in character. Slovenia and Croatia are neighbouring countries with many economic, cultural and human links and have particularly strong reasons for strengthening their cooperation in the current situation of global economic crisis.

President Türk also suggested that in the coming period Slovenia and Croatia assess, realistically and in a sober manner, the efforts made so far with the aim of Croatia's accession to the Euro-Atlantic organizations, in particular the EU. Slovenia is interested in Croatia's further progress in this process. At this time there is an opportunity for an additional effort to finalize the determination of the border between the two countries. Solution is possible on the basis of mutual respect and taking into account the legitimate interests of both countries, in the framework of possibilities provided by international law. President Türk suggests that both countries analyze thoroughly their experience gained so far and strengthen their effort for a mutually advantageous, just and lasting solution.
