President of the Republic of Slovenia receives Speaker of the Canadian Senate

President Türk receives Dr Noël A. Kinsella, the Speaker of the Canadian Senate (FA BOBO)The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, received Dr Noël A. Kinsella, the Speaker of the Senate of Canada. The two interlocutors discussed bilateral relations and the significance for Canada of Slovenia's EU membership. Dr Kinsella expressed his great satisfaction over yesterday's discussions on cooperation between the city of Saint John in the Canadian province of New Brunswick and the Slovenian town of Koper. In his words, there are many opportunities for cooperation, in particular in connecting the ports of Saint John and Koper.

Dr Türk and Dr Kinsella also focused on cooperation between Slovenia and Canada in multilateral organisations, in particular the United Nations, and in the area of human rights. The President of Slovenia expressed his satisfaction over the anticipated visit of the Governor General of Canada to Slovenia, which is tentatively scheduled for October 2009, after she was obliged to cut short her official visit to the Republic of Slovenia last year due to the internal political situation in Canada.
