In his opening address, President Türk pointed out that nothing has revolutionised the modern world as much as the development of communication tools, particularly the Internet.

President Türk emphasised that communication was a fundamental human need in every environment. He also referred to the challenges presented by the development of telecommunications and focused on internal communication as the central theme of this year's BledCom symposium.

President Türk first addressed the problem that an increase in communication volumes often entails an increase in the quantity of irrelevant information sent and received, which does not contribute to an enhanced understanding of the issues dealt with by individual organisations.

In this context, he stated that internal communication in hierarchically structured organisations comprise individual constituent units with various mandates and reporting procedures. He went on to explain that horizontal communication could cause additional problems in such organisations unless properly structured.

Since Internet communication has now become universal, practices should be developed by means of horizontal communication in order to enhance the understanding of issues dealt with by an organisation as a whole. Organisations need to properly structure their internal communication systems in order to achieve this goal, concluded the President.
