President of the Republic Dr Danilo Türk lodged the proposal for nomination of the Constitutional Court judges

President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, proposed today to the National Assembly four candidates for four vacancies for constitutional judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia. The proposed candidates for constitutional judges are the judges of the Supreme Court Dr Mitja Deisinger, Jasna Pogačar and Jan Zobec, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the Republic of Austria Dr Ernest Petrič.

Dr Mitja Deisinger was proposed by the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia, while Prof Dr Ernest Petrič was proposed by the President of the Third Senate of the European Court of Human Rights Dr Boštjan M. Zupančič, as well as by Prof Dr Anton Grizold, Prof Dr Bojko Bučar and Prof Dr Ljubica Jelušič from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Ljubljana, and by the Dean of the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies and European Studies Prof Dr Tone Jerovšek. Mr Jan Zobec and Mrs Jasna Pogačar were invited by President Türk to run for the candidacy outside the proposals received upon the call for submission of candidatures.

The proposed candidates run for vacancies of the outgoing constitutional judges Prof Dr Mirjam Marjeta Škrk and Prof Dr Janez Čebulj, whose term of office expired by 30 October 2007, Prof Dr Zvonko Fišer, whose term of office expired by 17 December 2007, and Prof Dr Franc Grad, who was discharged at his own request on 1 February 2008 by the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia.

The President of the Republic presented his proposal to the leaders of deputy groups in the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia.
