In his speech, President Türk said that the Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income that Slovenia and Cyprus signed yesterday, gives a new basis for a new chapter in the economic cooperation between the countries that, at the moment, is not as successful as it could be. As the most perspective sectors, the President underlined new technologies, energetics, building sector as well as financial and tourist services. He expressed expectation that the representatives of Cypriot economy will soon pay visit to Slovenia and further the aims to strengthen the economy cooperation between the countries.
President Christofias stressed that according to the generally good relations between the countries there, are no reasons why not to give new impetus to the, for now, moderate economic cooperation between the countries. He added that he is looking forward to new contacts that had been established by Slovene and Cypriot businessmen and that he and President Türk are being very supportive.
Later on, Slovene President Türk attended the opening of a school and didactic exhibition of artistic works of Slovene children in Nicosia at the Cypriot Ministry of Education and Culture. |
Afterwards, President Türk met the Speaker of House of Representatives of Cyprus Marios Garoian with whom he talked mostly of endeavours to solve the Cypriot issue. President of the Cypriot Parliament said that they live in hope of an early resolving of the issue, yet he stressed that the problem may be solved mostly by the Republic of Turkey. The two Presidents discussed also the issues of finances and tax policy, with Slovene Minister of Finance Dr Franc Kri¾aniè participanting in the conversation.
At the end of the official visit to Cyprus, President Danilo Türk and his spouse Barbara Mikliè Türk met the head of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus His Beatitude Chrisostomos II, Archbishop of Nova Justiniana and All Cyprus. |
