President of the Republic Dr Danilo Türk confers Golden Order for Services on the former Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Catherine Lalumière (FA BOBO)The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, has conferred the Golden Order for Services on the former Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Catherine Lalumière, for her support during Slovenia's efforts to gain independence and sovereignty, and for her role in Slovenia's accession to the Council of Europe.

In his address, Dr Türk thanked Ms Lalumière for her contribution to Slovenia's integration into the family of European nations and for her exceptional contribution to the transformation of Europe. He stressed that the future of Europe has always depended on great personalities, among whom Catherine Lalumière ranks highly.

She also mentioned the European future and described Europe’s vision, according to which Europe should not only be an economic community, but also a society and culture based on the values of freedom, openness, tolerance and respect for every individual.
