 | On the second day of the state visit of the Norwegian royal couple to Slovenia, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Danilo Türk, and His Majesty, King Harald V of Norway, attended the opening of a Slovenian-Norwegian business seminar, where they addressed businesspeople from both countries.
In his address, King Harald V said that trade between the two countries has almost doubled since Slovenia's accession to the European Union in 2004. Although trade is still very modest, it increased by as much as 14 per cent last year, emphasised the king, who expressed the expectation that this trend would also continue in the future.
President Türk pointed out that the economies of Slovenia and Norway complement each other in different ways. Among the areas of Slovenia's economy representing good opportunities for investors from Norway, he mentioned transport, tourism, tourist infrastructure, new technologies, renewable energy sources and environmentally-friendly agriculture. He also called for closer cooperation between the two countries in the field of medical services.
The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Danilo Türk, and his wife, Barbara Miklič Türk, and Their Majesties, King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway, then visited the Soča University Rehabilitation Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, where they made a tour of the premises and were acquainted with the operation of the institute.
They also met a group of Palestinian children, who have come for treatment to Slovenia at the initiative of President Türk within the framework of a humanitarian project. In the recent military conflicts in the Gaza Strip, these children suffered severe physical injuries and disability and the Slovenian Rehabilitation Institute will provide them with new supports and prostheses, will help them improve their physical mobility and will enable them to live normal lives.
The President and his wife and the Norwegian royal couple then went to Radovljica, where they met the Mayor of the Municipality of Radovljica, Ciril Globočnik, and his wife, Mojca Globočnik, and visited the old city centre.
They also visited the Radovljica Mansion and a photography exhibition there, within the project "Lively Old Town" (Sejem bil je živ). Within the project, the Municipality of Radovljica renovated the multi-purpose Baroque hall and arranged the premises for a permanent exhibition on Anton Tomaž Linhart in the Radovljica Mansion, for which the Norwegian Financial Mechanism contributed €207 400. The royal couple and the presidential couple concluded their visit to the Radovljica Mansion by attending a concert of the Ba-Rock band.
In the evening, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Danilo Türk, and his wife, Barbara Miklič Türk, again met Their Majesties, King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway, at a farewell ceremony with military honours. |
