The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, today received the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, who is on a working visit to Slovenia. The Slovenian and Russian Presidents attended the second leg of the play-offs for qualification for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa between Slovenia and Russia.
Dr Türk and Mr Medvedev held a bilateral meeting, where they briefly assessed the course of the match. They agreed that the first half took place in a truly sporting atmosphere.
President Türk assessed bilateral relations as excellent. He added that the relations and the negotiations on a new agreement between the European Union and the Russian Federation are moving towards a favourable conclusion, an issue that Slovenia successfully advocated during its EU Council Presidency. President Türk expressed his satisfaction with the signing of the Agreement on Cooperation in constructing the South Stream gas pipeline. |
