Slovenian President attends Presidential Conference ‘Facing Tomorrow’

Klikni za poveèavoThe President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, is currently attending the Presidential Conference ‘Facing Tomorrow’ being held in Jerusalem. On the first day of his visit to Israel, the Slovenian President was received by the President of the State of Israel, Shimon Peres. In a long and cordial conversation, they discussed a number of international issues, particularly those connected with the future of the Middle East.

The Israeli President, Shimon Peres, outlined his vision of cooperation in the region, especially the integration of economic aspects with efforts for political stability. Mr Peres particularly stressed the importance of opening economic opportunities and jobs in the countries of the region, which could have a positive impact on welfare and stability in the region. At Dr Türk’s request, the Israeli President also explained in detail Israel’s views of current efforts to establish a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to improve communications on the West Bank.

Klikni za poveèavoThe two Presidents also discussed cooperation between Israel and the European Union. They considered the present development of relations as very positive. The Slovenian President informed his counterpart of the international activities of the Republic of Slovenia and of Slovenia’s decision to designate 27 January ‘Holocaust Remembrance Day’ in line with the recommendation of the General Assembly of the United Nations. Both assessed cooperation between the two countries as good.
