President Türk receives representatives of the Invisible Workers of the World

Ljubljana, 1.6.2012  |  press release

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, received activists from the Invisible Workers of the World (IWW), who informed him on the current situation of migrant and other workers, who are threatened by forced displacement from residence halls for single persons. The activists of the Invisible Workers of the World particularly pointed out the severe conditions in which 73 workers of the company Vegrad, residing at the residence hall for single persons in Ljubljana at Ulica Vide Pregarèeve Street, have found themselves, and who will have to leave their residence hall by the end of June according to the decision of the official receiver of the company.

The President of the Republic repeated his view that the question of the arrangement of the status of migrant workers, to whom companies in receivership owe salaries, is a human rights problem and a national disgrace. The President ensured the representatives of the Invisible Workers of the World that he would help them to resolve their issues as far as he was able and to highlight this question in his discussions with competent institutions.
