Slovenian President Calls Elections to European Parliament

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, today called elections to the European Parliament to be held on 7 June 2009. President Türk expressed the hope that the turnout of voters would be high, confirming support for the European Union, and particularly the European Parliament as a body representative of all citizens.

"In the period of the future composition of the European Parliament, our common European homeland, the European Union, will be facing some serious trials, while the role of the European Parliament will be more important than ever before. This perception should be the guideline in this year's elections to the European Parliament," emphasised the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk.
