Slovenian President concludes his state visit to Finland

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, lays a wreath at the Cross of Heroes and the grave of Marshal Mannerheim (photo: Tina Kosec/STA)On the last day of his state visit to the Republic of Finland, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, laid a wreath at the Cross of Heroes and the grave of Marshal Mannerheim at the Hietaniemi Memorial Cemetery in Helsinki.

He then met the Finnish Prime Minister, Matti Vanhanen, to review current bilateral political relations, as well as co-operation in the science, research and the economy. While discussing these topics, Dr Türk and Mr Vanhanen were joined by the State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dragoljuba Benèina, and the State Secretary at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Dr József Györkös.

Slovenian President Dr Danilo Türk meets Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen (photo: Tina Kosec/STA)The talks between President Türk and the Prime Minister Vanhanen particularly focused on global warming and activities following the Climate Summit in Copenhagen, in the light of the recent 10th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit, in which both took part.

Dr Türk outlined to Mr Vanhanen his views on current progress in South Eastern Europe and the importance of the commitments of the countries of this region in moving towards joining the European Union.
