The two statesmen emphasised the enhancement of mutual trust based on sovereign equality, mutual respect and other principles, including the One-China principle, as the basis for bilateral co-operation between Slovenia and China. High-level visits between the two countries are also included in this framework.

They estimated that bilateral economic co-operation is making good progress but needs additional incentives, especially in the investment area, as Slovenia expects China to be active in the Slovenian economy.

They also evaluated progress in co-operation at the cultural level, as reflected in the recent opening of the Confucius Institute in Ljubljana. President Türk stressed the importance of Slovenian language classes at Chinese universities.

They also discussed co-operation in multilateral institutions. President Türk said that Slovenia appreciates China’s contribution to peace and stability; however, he expressed his desire that China’s role would be more pronounced in institutions such as the International Monetary Fund.
