Slovenian President receives representatives of the Italian national community

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Danilo Türk, received representatives of the Italian national community in Slovenia (photo: Neboj¹a Tejiæ/STA)The Slovenian President, Danilo Türk, received representatives of the Italian national community in the Republic of Slovenia in order to discuss the status of the Italian community and their expectations prior to his state visit to Italy, which was to take place between 17 and 19 January 2011.

In his statement to the press, President Türk emphasised that the status of the Italian national community in Slovenia is good and governed in compliance with international standards and Slovenian regulations. He highlighted that financial resources had been earmarked for projects of the Italian national community in order to maintain the level of contribution from the Republic of Slovenia.

He pointed out the importance of joint projects of the Italian national community in Slovenia and the Slovenian national community in Italy, which ensure a common European perspective. The President expressed his wish that such projects would also be developed in the future, since Slovenia and Italy share a common future within the European Union.

Among the problems that they are facing, he indicated the problem of the recognition of Italian higher education diplomas in Slovenia.
