President Türk congratulates President-Elect of Germany

President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, congratulated the newly-elected President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Joachim Gauck, and wished him successful discharge of his duties.

In the letter, President Türk wrote: "I believe that Germany will benefit greatly from your rich experience, knowledge and integrity. Germany has a special place in the history of Slovenia as an independent state. Slovenia and Germany are committed to the values of human rights and democracy which represents a strong basis for their cooperation and partnership. This has bound the two countries and peoples with unbreakable ties of friendship, constructive political dialogue and robust economic cooperation. There is still untapped potential allowing for further development, strengthening and diversification of these bonds. I am looking forward to working with you towards this goal.

Predsednik Türk also invited President Joachim Gauck for an official visit to Slovenia, which would have an added symbolic significance during this year, when we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Slovenia and Germany.
