President Türk offers his condolences on the death of Václav Havel

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, expressed his sorrow at the news of the death of the former President of the Czech Republic, Václav Havel.

"Václav Havel was a great European and global personality, advocate of human rights, essayist and artist, and a driving force behind change in Europe. He made a historic contribution to the fall of Europe's totalitarian regimes. His efforts for the consistent implementation of human rights and commitment to democracy and a developed political culture left an indelible mark on the end of the twentieth century.
The legacy of his work and life means he will go down in history as a man of great character who inspired many positive changes.
He had many friends in Slovenia and was greatly admired in cultural and political circles. He will therefore forever remain in the memory of all who had the pleasure of meeting him," President Dr Danilo Türk wrote in his letter of condolence to the President of the Czech Republic, Václav Klaus.
