President Türk congratulated Nelson Mandela

President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, congratulated on behalf of the Slovenian people and his own behalf the former President of the Republic of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, on his 94th birthday, wishing him happiness, good health and well-being.

"You have been an inspiring leader not only to the people of South Africa, but also to nations worldwide. Your strong belief in human dignity and human rights received global validation and has inspired entire humankind. The demise of the apartheid coincided with the time of democratic changes in Eastern and Central Europe. Your enormous transformational energy served as encouragement and inspiration to many of us. Your commitment to peace and reconciliation should serve as a model to leaders around the world," wrote President Türk.
