Slovenian President holds bilateral talks at Presidential Conference ‘Facing Tomorrow’

On the margins of the Presidential Conference ‘Facing Tomorrow’ in Jerusalem, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, had meetings with several statesmen. On his initiative, he thus met the President of the Republic of Latvia, Valdis Zatlers, the President of Mongolia, Nambaryn Enkhbayar, and the President of the Republic of Poland, Lech Kaczyñski.

Klikni za poveèavoPresident Türk and the Latvian President, Valdis Zatlers, discussed various European issues, in particular the development of international cooperation in the Baltic region, this being an important component in relations within the European Union as well as between the EU and Russia.

The Mongolian President, Nambaryn Enkhbayar, informed his Slovenian counterpart of the development of cooperation between Mongolia and the European Union, and advocated enhancing bilateral relations between Slovenia and Mongolia. He especially emphasised Mongolia’s openness to foreign investment and its wish for cooperation in the area of education.

Klikni za poveèavoIn Dr Türk’s conversation with the Polish President, Lech Kaczyñski, European topics predominated, including the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty. The two Presidents considered the progress in the development of the European institutions as positive and exchanged views on the further enlargement of the European Union.

On the margins of the Presidential Conference, the Slovenian President, Dr Türk, also had several other brief meetings. Among other statesmen, he met the former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, with whom he discussed efforts to improve the situation in the Palestinian Territories. With the former Soviet President, Mikhail Gorbachev, the Slovenian President discussed the situation regarding global security and the nuclear disarmament initiative, in which ex-President Gorbachev is also involved.
