Meeting of Presidents of Slovenia and Croatia

Working meeting of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, and the President of the Republic of Croatia, Dr Ivo Josipović (photo: Stanko Gruden/STA)The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk and the President of the Republic of Croatia, Dr Ivo Josipović, met informally today at Otočec ob Krki. In lengthy talks the two presidents discussed Slovenia’s support for Croatia’s endeavours to join the European Union and other bilateral issues.

President Türk stressed that Croatia’s becoming a Member State of the European Union is of the utmost importance not only for Croatia, but also for its neighbour Slovenia and for the European Union as a whole. President Josipović thanked his Slovenian counterpart for this support and for understanding the difficulties faced by Croatia in the process of integration into the European Union and expressed his hope that his country would become a Member State of the EU shortly.

The two leaders agreed that relations between the two neighbouring countries were improving, and reiterated their firm belief that friendship and cooperation between Slovenia and Croatia would continue to strengthen in the future.
