Meeting of three presidents in Trieste

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, has accepted an invitation from the President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, to attend a Concert of Friendship in Trieste on 13 July 2010. The concert is being prepared by world renowned conductor, Riccardo Muti. It will also be attended by the President of the Republic of Croatia, Dr Ivo Josipoviĉ.

The Italian and Croatian Presidents have accepted the initiative of the Slovenian President to visit jointly the Slovenian cultural centre ‘Narodni dom’ in Trieste on this occasion to remember in a brief ceremony the events of 13 July ninety years ago when the centre, an important symbol for the Slovenian community in Italy, was burnt down.

The three presidents will also visit the memorial to the Italian exodus from Istria, Rijeka and Dalmatia and with this joint act will commemorate the painful past and, at the same time, foster constructive and friendly co-existence between their peoples in a united Europe.
