During their talks, President Türk and his guest focused on topics associated with Albania's efforts to join Euro-Atlantic structures. Considering this goal its top priority, Albania has made important steps towards achieving it in recent months.

Following a revival of the Albanian Parliament's work, the political situation has improved and the legislative programme is making good progress. According to Ms Topalli, the Republic of Albania is thus establishing conditions for obtaining EU candidate status. During the talks, particular emphasis was, in this context, placed on the role of Albania as a factor of stability in the Balkans and its legitimate expectations of being accorded this status. Moreover, there is a need to improve political knowledge of Albania, whose reality is still poorly known in Europe and quite often burdened with prejudices.

President Türk and Speaker Topalli also touched upon bilateral cooperation. In this respect, the president said that one cannot be fully satisfied with the dynamics of economic relations, as they do not show sufficient progress. Furthermore, they both advocated the idea of direct cooperation between the two parliaments. The Slovenian President has welcomed this initiative and sees it as an important aspect of enhancing Albania's visibility on its path towards EU membership.
