President Janez Drnovšek receives FIFA President

 The President of the Republic, Dr Janez Drnovšek, today received the President of FIFA, Mr Joseph S. Blatter. Mr Blatter first congratulated Dr Drnovšek on Slovenia’s successful development in the economic, cultural and sports spheres. According to him, the small country of Slovenia has made considerable progress in football in recent years. In light of this, he stressed the significance of projects such as today’s opening of a football centre featuring an artificial playing surface in Šiška, which is the result of cooperation between FIFA, the Slovenian government and the municipality of Ljubljana.
 Mr Blatter also briefed the President on FIFA’s plans for the future. Dr Drnovšek closed by emphasising the significance of sport in the wider social sense and added that Slovenia would continue to develop football in the future.
