Reception of Letter of Credence from Chinese Ambassador

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, today received the Letter of Credence from the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Slovenia, Mr Zhi Zhaolin.
President Drnovšek assessed that 15 years after the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Slovenia and the People's Republic of China the cooperation between the two friendly countries was developing favourably in many different areas. President Drnovšek went on to say that during his visit to China last year, when he also visited Tibet, where he was on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China accompanied by the present Ambassador Zhi Zhaolin, he was impressed by the great and positive progress China had made. He also expressed his conviction that the political leadership of this large country was aware of the importance of achieving the right balance between the economic and social development and the protection of the human environment. He added that this was a task the whole world should be concerned about.
Ambassador Zhi Zhaolin stressed that the People's Republic of China saw the cooperation with Slovenia within the context of priority it attached to the relations with the European Union. He continued that the European Union was China's most important economic partner and also exposed the importance of the permanent political dialogue between the European Union and the People's Republic of China. Therefore, he said, China expected a lot from the period of Slovenia's presidency of the European Union.
