Meeting with the Vice President of the People’s Republic of China

Dr Janez Drnovšek, who is attending the fifth annual conference of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), today met the Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, Zeng Qinghong.
The two leaders confirmed the very good relations that exist between the two countries and agreed that in the future there will be even more opportunities for good cooperation, both in the economic sphere and in other spheres such as politics, culture and science. President Drnovšek and Vice President Zeng also discussed the situation in Tibet and touched on the experience of uniting China and Hong Kong and the successful implementation of the ‘one state, two systems’ principle that has been employed since Hong Kong was returned to China. The two men agreed that this was a successful principle with advantages both for Hong Kong and for China as a whole.
Vice President Zeng Qinghong is currently deputising for President Hu Jintao, who is on a state visit to the United States of America. President Drnovšek therefore asked the Vice President to pass on to the President his invitation to visit Slovenia during his forthcoming visit to Europe.
President Drnovšek today gave a statement on the BFA conference for this evening’s news on CCTV 1 and recorded a lengthy interview with journalist Shui Junyi for the Top Talk programme, also for Chinese national television.
