President Drnovšek talks to EU Ambassadors about the challenges ahead of the European Union

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek today met with the ambassadors of the European Union member countries for a working lunch held at Brdo pri Kranju.
At the outset of the meeting, President Drnovšek presented the procedures applicable to the formation of a new government and his competencies in the process. Thereafter, Mr Drnovšek and ambassadors talked about the essential projects of the EU, paying particular attention to the procedure of adopting the European Constitutional Treaty, and to the Turkish perspective of EU membership in the light of recommendations by the European Commission concerning Turkey's readiness to commence accession negotiations.
They also exchanged positions on the European perspective of the Western Balkan countries and touched on the issue of the Slovene-Croatian relations. Finally, the President presented to his guests the importance of the Slovene chairmanship of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe in the following year.
