Reception of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran
Ljubljana, 03/14/2007 | press release
The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, received today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Mr. Manouchehr Mottaki, and the members of his delegation, who accompany him in his visit to Slovenia and certain other European countries. The main theme of discussions were the efforts made by Iran and the international community to reach a consensual solution for the Iranian nuclear programme, thus providing stability and peace not only in Iran but in the entire region, which has the largest energy reserves in the world. The Iran’s Foreign Minister emphasized that his country is interested in the development of the programme for the peaceful use of nuclear energy and that for this purpose, Iran is willing to cooperate in seeking such political solution that will contribute to removing the doubts and fear that a programme of nuclear armaments is being developed in Iran.
President Drnovšek pointed out the need to continue seeking a diplomatic solution both within and outside the UN and to endeavour to create trust and build dialog. Iran is a very important country in its region and it can have a constructive impact on the resolving of other problems in that part of the world, e.g. in Iraq and Middle East. The recent meeting in Baghdad, in which Iran participated, has confirmed that there are possibilities for a diplomatic solution, but to this end, all those for whom a peaceful resolution of the problem is the first priority, have to be given a chance.
