Letters of Credence presented by the Ambassador of Canada

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, today received the newly appointed Ambassador Canada, Pierre Guimonde.
The Ambassador, whose permanent office is in Budapest, emphasized the wish of the Canadian Government to strengthen their relations with Slovenia, which are attributed great importance in Ottawa, more so in the light of the Slovenia’s presidency of EU. The cooperation between Slovenia and Canada takes place predominantly on a multilateral level, within the framework of several peace and humanitarian initiatives worldwide. The Ambassador particularly pointed out the peace missions in SE Europe, where members of the armed forces, police and civil institutions of both countries are participating and thus contributing towards strengthening of peace and stability. He expressed his opinion that greater effort should also be directed to promoting mutual economic cooperation. He further conveyed to the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Janez Drnovšek, sincere greetings of the long-standing President of the Canadian Government and his friend, Jean Chretiene.
Dr. Drnovšek expressed his appreciation of the active endeavours of Canada for peace and humanitarian help to those suffering in wars and natural disasters. He welcomed the Ambassador’s readiness to actively participate in the development of economic and other forms of cooperation between Slovenia and Canada, and wished him every success in his further work.
