Click to enlargeThe President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, today received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Slovenia, Mr Ranjit Rae, who is based in Budapest, for a farewell visit. The Indian Government recently decided to open an embassy in Slovenia, and the new ambassador is expected in Ljubljana in February.

President Drnovšek expressed his thanks to the departing Ambassador for his contribution to the development of good and friendly relations between the two countries, which has created an environment of open opportunities, particularly in the area of economic relations. President Drnovšek and Ambassador Rae devoted the largest part of the visit to the conference to be held on 29 and 30 January in New Delhi to mark the centenary of the Ghandian movement of peaceful resistance to discrimination and injustice, as the Slovenian president will be among the many world politicians, scientists and representatives of civil society who will participate. The aim of the conference, organized by the Indian Government and the ruling Congress party, is to acknowledge the continuity of Ghandian philosophy and its modernity in the contemporary world.
