A letter to Jean Chretien
Ljubljana, 12/12/2003 | press release

In consideration of the fact that you are now leaving the political arena, I would like to thank you most sincerely for your role in the excellent cooperation enjoyed by our two countries during your term as Prime Minister of Canada. I would also like to congratulate you on everything you have achieved during your ten years as Prime Minister, a period when you managed to place Canada among the most politically stable and economically and socially prosperous countries of the world.

Over the past decade, relations between Slovenia and Canada have developed into a fruitful dialogue between two allies sharing similar values – international dialogue, peaceful settlement of conflicts, respect for the rule of law and the importance of international organisations, to mention but a few. Canada has always firmly supported NATO enlargement and Slovenia's membership of the organisation, and my country greatly appreciates this. Your friendly attitude towards Slovenia was clearly demonstrated during our meetings, which I always found highly enjoyable.
