Reception of Letter of Credence from Moldavian Ambassador
Ljubljana, 01/19/2007 | press release
The President of the Republic, Dr Janez Drnovšek, today received the Letter of Credence from the Moldavian Ambassador Dr Valeriu Bobutac, who will cover Slovenia from Budapest.
The Ambassador emphasized that Slovenia and Moldavia had traditionally good relations and added that his special role would be to encourage economic cooperation between the countries, which was relatively weak, although both sides were interested in enhancing their economic ties. Economic growth in Moldavia has been strong in the recent years and the country is convinced that the political problems relating to Pridniester, where Russia has a military base, will also be solved soon. In the following years, Moldavia intends to modernise its infrastructure, construct the first motorways and electrify its railway network. These projects would offer great opportunities for cooperation with the Slovenian economy.
President Drnovšek pointed out that Slovenia was very interested in the development of bilateral relations as well as in cooperation at international level, where both countries often defend common positions.
The Ambassador conveyed to the President of the Republic of Slovenia warm regards from the Moldavian President Vladimir Voronin and invited Dr Drnovšek to visit Moldavia.
