Ljubljana, 01/21/2005 | press release
The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek congratulated the President of the United States George W. Bush on the occasion of his inauguration and expressed best wishes for every success in performing duties during his second term in office. In his letter President Dr Drnovšek also wrote:
"Since our conversation two years ago in Washington, Slovenia has strengthened its relations with the United States and has joined NATO, thus becoming an even closer partner and ally. It is our wish to work closely with the United States as well as with other democratic countries in spreading freedom and the respect for human rights. Slovenia’s OSCE Chairmanship this year gives us an opportunity to contribute actively to the further advancement of democracy and stability in Eastern European and Euro-Asian countries in transition.
We are committed to working closely with the U.S.A. in bringing the countries of South-Eastern Europe into the community of stable and successful democracies. The next few years will be decisive for the consolidation of peace and security in the region. The United States’ presence in the region and support for democratic processes is of crucial importance. It is our sincere wish that the pursuit of transatlantic cooperation and dialogue in these endeavors should continue. Our continued cooperation in solving the problems of the region presents an opportunity to further our relations and achieve the common goal of advancing peace, democracy and prosperity."
