President Drnovšek receives former Governor of Vermont, Mr Howard Dean

Today, at Brdo pri Kranju, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, received Mr Howard Dean, former Governor of Vermont and Democratic National Committee Chairman.
Dr Drnovšek and Mr Dean established at the beginning that the relations between Slovenia and the US were excellent and expressed their interest in these relations being continued in this spirit. They discussed the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which the American guest was due to visit as part of his European tour; they also exchanged views on the potential development and stabilisation of Kosovo.
Part of their attention was dedicated to the situation in the Middle East and the influence of the international community on the stabilisation and peaceful solution of conflicts in this area. One of the topics discussed was climate change in the world, and Dr Drnovšek wished to know how the US dealt with these problems. Mr Dean, in turn, expressed his interest in Slovenia’s preparation to adopt the euro and take over the EU presidency in 2008. Present at the meeting was former president, Mr Milan Kučan, who was Mr Dean’s host during his visit to Slovenia.
