Reception of the Ambassador of the Republic of India
Ljubljana, 03/01/2007 | press release
The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, today received the Letters of Credence from the Ambassador of the Republic of India, Dr Villur Sundararajan Seshadri.
Dr Seshadri stated that India considered Slovenia an example of a young and successful country, a member of the EU, NATO and the euro area that would assume the EU presidency in the first half of 2008. All these represent a significant opportunity and the right moment for enhancing co-operation between Slovenia and India in all areas. One of the forms of co-operation is the co-operation within the framework of the International Center for Promotion of Enterprises (ICPE), which needs revitalisation. Thus India will also appreciate Slovenia's substantive contribution to the achievement of this goal.
President Drnovšek emphasised the importance of India's opening an embassy with a resident ambassador in Ljubljana. Slovenia highly respects and observes with great interest India's development in all areas, and wishes to develop comprehensive mutual relations. India's development is particularly interesting because it is successful both in developing high technology and in preserving spiritual traditions. This experience is certainly important not only for India, but also for humanity as a whole. President Drnovšek expressed his hope that the European Union, too, will succeed in establishing such balanced development, so that both the EU and India together could contribute to the sustainable development of the world.
President Drnovšek confirmed that the ICPE deserved a new impetus and new qualities for its functioning.
Upon concluding the meeting, President Drnovšek wished Dr Seshadri all the best in his mission.
