President receives the Indonesian Foreign Minister

President Dr Janez Drnovšek today received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr N. Hassan Wirajuda, who is on an official visit to Slovenia. In his introduction, the Indonesian Foreign Minister said that his country had been following – although from afar – Slovenia's progress towards membership of the European Union and NATO. Dr Wirajuda went on to add: It is my country's desire to develop dynamic political and economic cooperation with numerous countries, since Indonesia, which is currently presiding in ASEAN, is actively striving to intensify the dialogue between Asia and the European Union. He further noted that Indonesia would like to improve its economic cooperation with Slovenia as a future member of the European Union, and drew attention to the already signed agreement between the two countries on economic, scientific and technological cooperation.
President Drnovšek said that, ever since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Slovenia and Indonesia had developed good and friendly relations. He stressed that the two countries held similar views on responses to the challenges in the international community. Dr Drnovšek expressed his support for further political dialogue and an increase in trade between the two countries. In the end, he asked Dr Wirajuda to convey his regards to Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri.
