The President of the Republic receives ambassadors of EU Member States
Ljubljana, 10/24/2005 | press release
The President of the Republic, Dr Janez Drnovšek, today received the ambassadors to the Republic of Slovenia of the EU Member States and of Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and Turkey.
President Drnovšek outlined his views on the issues currently at the forefront of discussions on the future of the European Union. He then went on to add that, after the no-votes on the Constitutional Treaty in France and the Netherlands, misgivings were expressed on the future stages of enlargement of the European Union. In President Drnovšek’s opinion, we should continue with the ratification of the Constitutional Treaty and then return to the two countries that did not accept it. He also stressed that the decision of the European Union to open negotiations with Croatia and Turkey was a courageous decision and an important signal to other countries in the region, indicating that the door to the European Union is open. President Drnovšek outlined the proposals that would need to be taken into consideration in the adoption of the Financial Perspective 2007–2013. At the end of the talks, Dr Drnovšek put forward his plan for the solution of the status of Kosovo.
