President Drnovšek receives the Minister President of the German Bundesland Hessen

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, today received Mr Roland Koch, Minister President of the German Bundesland Hessen, who was visiting Slovenia at the invitation of the Slovene Foreign Minister. President Drnovšek and Minister President Koch discussed the relations between the two states, at which Dr Drnovšek underlined Germany’s importance as Slovenia’s partner, adding that Slovenia had been developing comprehensive and positive relations with Hessen as well as with other German federal states.
Dr Drnovšek and Mr Koch also paid considerable attention to the future of the European Union, particularly from the viewpoint of its development and further enlargements. They exchanged opinions on the active role of Slovenia as a new member of the Euro-Atlantic organisations, especially in the stabilisation of the Western Balkan region where the European Union expects Slovenia to play a central role. At the conclusion of the talks, President Drnovšek expressed Slovenia's interest in consolidating partnership and continuing friendly relations with Bundesland Hessen.
