Letters of Credence presented by the Ambassador of New Zealand

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, today received the newly appointed Ambassador of New Zealand, F.L. Markes, who presented to him his letters of credence.
Drnovšek stressed that despite the great distance between Slovenia and New Zealand, the two countries have much in common; he experienced it firsthand when in contacts with New Zealand leaders and on the occasion of his visit there.
Peacekeeping missions in different parts of the world are one of the areas of co-operation between the countries. Ambassador Markes, base in Rome, pointed out his ambition to further enhance the bilateral relations with Slovenia as he believes that there are realistic possibilities in this direction. The Ambassador pointed out New Zealand’s strong interest to develop multilateral relations with the EU and its contribution towards finding a solution to the SE Pacific region’s issues. According to the Ambassador, the period of the Slovenian EU Presidency will give an additional impetus to Slovenia-New Zealand relations.
President Drnovšek wished the Ambassador every success in his work.
