The President of the Republic of Slovenia expressed his condolences on the death of Pope John Paul II

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, today sent a telegram of condolences to Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, in which he expressed his deepest condolences on the death of His Holiness, Pope John Paul II, on behalf of the Republic of Slovenia, the Slovene nation, and also in his own name. In his telegram,
Dr Drnovšek went on to say: “During more than twenty-six years of his pontificate, The Holy Father, John Paul II, left an indelible imprint not only on the Catholic Church but on the whole world. He was an exceptional personality and a leader who always and everywhere stood for Mankind and human dignity. The Holy Father’s closeness and benevolence towards every person and every nation were felt, time and again, also in Slovenia, for which the Slovene nation will remain forever grateful to him. We are most proud to have been able to welcome him to our country on two occasions. His words, acts and personal example will always remain a vivid encouragement in our endeavours to create a more humane world."
