The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, today sent a telegram of condolences to Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, in which he expressed his deepest condolences on the death of His Holiness, Pope John Paul II, on behalf of the Republic of Slovenia, the Slovene nation, and also in his own name. The Holy Father’s closeness and benevolence towards every person and every nation were felt, time and again, also in Slovenia, for which the Slovene nation will remain forever grateful to him.
