Dr Drnovšek meets Wesley Clark

In Davos, Switzerland, President Drnovšek today met General Wesley Clark, the former NATO Supreme Allied Commander for Europe and a possible future candidate for US president.
In the discussion, they exchanged their views on the situation in South-Eastern Europe. Dr Drnovšek felt that international involvement was urgently required in order to achieve the long-term stability of the region. He stressed that the focus on the Iraqi crisis and other world-wide crises should not jeopardise the activities of the international community to stabilise and consolidate this part of Europe. In the president’s opinion, Slovenia, a future member of the European Union, could play an important role in the stabilisation of the region due to its geographical proximity and its good insight into the circumstances of the region.
Dr Drnovšek and General Clark also discussed the issue of Iraq and arrived at the conclusion that creating the widest possible consensus on possible solutions to the Iraqi crisis was of utmost importance in the further development of international relations.
